I am a freelance photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area shooting mostly event and portrait photography with a creative eye, although I have plenty of experience shooting products and studio photography.
I was exposed to photography at a young age by my father as photogrpahy was his favorite hobby. He loved to put on slide shows of Kodachromes he captured of our family and I was instantly captivated by the larger than life images and the vibrant colors. Besides being a potato farmer, my grandfather on my mother’s side was also a photographer who mostly photographed weddings and local school portraits which he then processed and printed in a makeshift darkroom he built in his barn.
My first camera was a 35mm hand-me-down Pentax ME Super I got in my early teens and I graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA in Photography in 1997.
After getting my degree I spent several years printing in traditional color darkrooms at high-end photo labs which provided further technical insight into my craft while also giving me access to professional printing and scanning equipment as well as a behind the scenes look at the work of local Bay Area photographers who’s work I was printing and scanning long before online portfolios became the norm.
Currently I enjoy putting my knowledge and years of photographic experience to work capturing images that best express my creativity, my client’s
vision, or that document life’s moments in a both a journalistic and visually poetic way.
